The following was in an email sent from the Undergraduate Program Assistant (enscugra@sfu.ca) to all ENSC undergraduate students on 2022-11-14

Dear Students,
You might recall ENSC removing the Co-Op requirement for declaring your option. This was done in order to allow the students to continue taking upper division courses in the event there is a slight delay in securing the Co-Op.
You should note that you cannot complete the degree without the appropriate Co-Op credits. You should have completed at least one Co-Op before registering in ENSc405W and at least two Co-Ops before enrolling in ENSc440.
It would be really wise to complete all Co-Ops before enrolling in capstone courses. The worst case planning will be as follows: you must ensure at the time of applying for ENSC 405W you have at least one Co-Op on file and a plan to do a second Co-Op while doing ENSC 405W. Without two Co-Ops completed you will not be allowed to register into ENSc440. You will then have to complete the Co-Op and re-take ENSc405W before enrolling in ENSc440. This will delay your graduation and also cost you course repeat fees. On top of this, the ENSc405W instructor has the right not to allow 405W students to concurrently enrolled in Co-Op, if your Co-Op will prevent you from attending mandatory class room sessions.
Keeping track of Co-Op requirement is your responsibility and you have to self-monitor it. Neither the school nor the university will take any responsibility if your lack of planning extends your program and any resulting financial consequences.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
